This is the question that has been rolling through my mind all week. Missy and I were talking about this the other day.  We noticed that lately people have been asking us, “what’s new?” and we’ve literally had nothing much new to report.  We are still learning Spanish.  We are still in Antigua living in the same house.  Missy is still recovering from amoebas.  We are still adjusting to culture and language.  We are still looking forward to moving into the house we found in Villa Nueva in July.  We are still looking for a car.  We are still working on the final details of our new website.  Oh yeah, May 1st is the Guatemalan Labor Day…that’s about the only thing new we could think of!

When we started the process of becoming missionaries in Guatemala, we have continually dedicated ourselves to keeping “the folks back home” in the loop.  We believe part of what God has called us to is to bridge the gap between Guatemala and anyone willing to listen in the United States.  I never thought there would be a time where we didn’t have much to talk about, especially since anybody who has asked knows we absolutely LOVE talking about Guatemala.

This week was a rough one for us.  Aside from Missy fighting off microorganisms living in her digestive system, I have been feeling as though I hit another wall in the language absorption process.  I didn’t feel like speaking much Spanish and when I didn’t have a choice, I felt as though I wasn’t doing a very good job of it.  I understood only about half of what I normally do and getting up in the morning only left me counting down the time when I could return.  Friday was the first day that I got out of bed and didn’t wish I could just crawl back in.

The weather is in transition here. (If you have nothing to talk about, talk about the weather, right?)  May is the beginning of the Guatemalan winter.  That means the temperature drops to the 60s and 70s, there is perpetual cloudiness, and it rains a lot.  We have heard about the problems that will ensue with flooding and ceiling leaks around the country.  We have had a few periods of rain in the past couple weeks but nothing to “write home about.”

Well, it seems as though I had something to talk about anyway, even if it was much ado about nothing.  If it wasn’t as entertaining as you had hoped, maybe this will be a little more amusing.
