In 2017, we were blessed by some friends in that they paid to help Missy take a trip back to the states to surprise her mom for her birthday, have her acceptance interview for her schooling, take care of some things, and see her brother off for his senior year homecoming.  Aside from our times of furlough home, we tend to miss a lot of special events in the states such as these.  We try to set aside a little bit each month in case there is an emergency or we simply need some time away.  However, that is difficult with our regular expenses and always having to save money for furlough trips.
