That’s exactly what we asked ourselves when we woke up Easter Sunday at 4:30 a.m. after VERY little sleep.  We had decided to have the kids from the church/community over the night before for a sleepover because it was the only time they could do it with their school schedules and the only time we could do it before we left for furlough.  So after a VERY late night and waking up VERY early for sunrise service we couldn’t help but ask “What were we thinking?”  But the truth of the matter is that it was a huge blessing.  We always have such a great time w/these kids and this time was no different.

The last sleepover we had, we split it into two nights: one for the girls and the other for the boys.  We didn’t have time for that this time and the pastor told us that the boys had been asking to go camping for a while so we improvised!  The girls got to stay in the house and sleep in the warm comfy beds and the boys got to “rough it” by camping in the yard!  We had been saving up scrap wood from the yard over the past year so we had plenty to make a nice warm fire amidst the cool night and roast marshmallows.

Interestingly enough, the hit of the night was Cate, who the kids loved to chase around the yard until they got tired.  The boys enjoyed an outdoor theater on the patio and a discussion around the fire of the significance of Jesus’ resurrection.  While the girls discussed the blessing of the resurrection and the eternal life we have in Jesus because of it, watched Barbie movies, and painted their nails.  So even though it was a night that involved very little sleep and that made us question our own wisdom it was totally worth it to share time with these kids who God has made such a special part of our lives!
